Style/ Confessional, Slow Labour
Description/
In my artwork "Sorry and Wrong," I explore the words "sorry" and "wrong" and the reasons behind why we say them. I delve into why I apologize and the idea of forgiveness when someone apologizes to me. Through this exploration, I realize that I need to say sorry to myself for neglecting my own self-care, which has affected my mental and physical well-being.
The centerpiece of this artwork is a time capsule letter addressed to myself, apologizing for not taking care of myself in various aspects of my life. The letter reflects on my habits of not eating well, sleeping poorly, not living to the fullest, neglecting self-care, not working efficiently, not exercising enough, and not using time wisely. Through this letter, I confess my sadness and express my willingness to make changes.
To complement the time capsule letter, I use fabric and slow labor to highlight the theme of slowness in the artwork. The process of creating the fabric serves as a meditative practice that allows me to slow down and reflect on my life. The fabric also symbolizes the fragility of life and how it needs to be taken care of, just like our own selves.
Overall, "Sorry and Wrong" is an artwork that explores the complexity of human emotions and the importance of self-care. It is a personal reflection that encourages viewers to think about their own lives and the ways in which they can take better care of themselves.
